I grew up in a small town in North Carolina, one of a family of ten.
My father and one of my brothers dabbled in art but I was the one who embraced
it. I think mostly because if was my way of not getting lost in a
family of ten children. I was an introverted child who was very influenced
by things and people who surrounded me. I remember going out in the
woods for hours and drawing. I had a sense of awe about the most
mundane things.
I moved to Los Angeles, California seeking inspiration for my art.
Eventually, I came to the realization that inspiration comes from within
and that there is beauty wherever you are.
My technique consists of dropping in layers of color and allowing water,
pain and paper to perform it's magic with minimal control on my part.
Any control I allow myself to do is toward the end of the paining stage
and consists of lifting out highlights, deepening values and adding details.
I presently spend a great deal of time in my studio and am active in local
art association and exhibit in local fairs and galleries.
