Eva Makk

Eva Makk has been called "the world's foremost living impressionist painter."   For over half a century, her art has touched the hearts and minds of viewers around the world.

Paintings by Eva Makk are currently in the collections of museums and galleries in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and Japan.  Her work has been the focus of a number of major public exhibitions including the U.S. Senate Rotunda, the Carnegie International Center, Abilene Fine Arts Museum, Las Vegas Art Museum and St. Stephen Museum.  Among the many dignitaries who have selected Eva Makk to create their portraits are Princess Kyoko Osano of Japan and President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.

Like Michelangelo, Eva Makk has achieved a place in art history for her legacy of monumental murals.  Working jointly with her husband, renowned artist Americo Makk, she has created murals in sixteen cathedrals and churches on two continents since 1955, a feat unequaled by any other artist in our time.  Recently, Eva Makk added to this legacy, completing two grand murals in Aurora, Colorado.  These new murals at Queen of Peace, one of the regionÕs largest churches, are seen by more than 5,000 visitors each week.

Eva Makk was born in Ethiopia, where her Hungarian father was an advisor to Emperor Haile Selasie.  She received her formal art education in Paris and Rome.  After moving to Brazil in 1949, Eva and Americo Makk worked as Professors of Art in Sao Paulo and later were named Official Artists of the Brazilian Government.  Among their many commissions was an unprecedented two year trek deep into the rain forest to paint the Amazon Indians.  Her son, A.B. Makk, who is also an award winning artist, was born in Brazil.  In 1962 Eva Makk and her family moved to New York, then in 1967 they moved to Hawaii.  The Makks established Vision Fine Art in Hawaii in 1988, where they create international award winning serigraphs.
